ABOUT US

A new wave of seafood

BlueNalu’s mission is to be the global leader in cell-cultured seafood, providing consumers with great tasting, healthy, safe, and trusted products that support the sustainability and diversity of our ocean.

BlueNalu began when Lou Cooperhouse, co-founder, President & CEO, visited the beautiful state of Hawaii to speak about the opportunity for cell-cultured products to transform the global seafood industry. Hawaii was the perfect setting for this occasion, as it is one of the most biologically diverse regions on the planet and located nearly 2500 miles from any large landmass, in the heart of the Pacific Ocean - a critically important and increasingly vulnerable epicenter of ocean health.

Our core values

Our values define who we are as an organization and how we live and act, both in the workplace and as citizens of the world.

Our name & logo

BLUENALU® and the BlueNalu Fish Logo are registered marks of BlueNalu, Inc. in the United States as well as certain other jurisdictions.

Our logo was designed to demonstrate that we can enjoy great-tasting seafood in a way in which fish can continue to survive and thrive in our ocean. Our logo reinforces this duality – the yin and yang that results when we are conscious of the tremendous challenges that currently exist in our seafood industry, and the changes we can make by adopting a more thoughtful and holistic perspective.

“Nalu” is a word of Hawaiian origin, and conveys the essence of our company:

As a noun, “nalu” most commonly refers to the waves and surf of the moana, or the ocean.

As a verb, “nalu” means to meditate, ponder or contemplate. To “nalu it” is also street slang for going with the flow, but being mindful at the same time.

Our commitments

Safety & Transparency

We are committed to following the appropriate regulatory pathways to produce real, great tasting, high-quality, safe, trusted and ethically-produced seafood that supports healthy families and ocean ecosystems.

Sustainability

There is increasing need for sustainable food options without compromising flavor or texture. BlueNalu is committed to seafood that prioritizes environmental and social good, through safety, traceability, climate resilience, biodiversity, and nutrition for people & communities.

Collaboration

BlueNalu is committed to collaboration with our multinational industry partners as well restaurants, chefs, regulators, policymakers, non-profits, and universities to achieve the global goals for sustainable development.

Species Selection

BlueNalu is committed to working with the seafood industry to supplement current supply, and we are specifically focused on species that are overfished, primarily imported, or difficult to farm raise. As a result, we can reduce pressure on wild fisheries, displace the need for foreign imports, enhance food security and promote increased consumption of healthy seafood globally.
